Najmi Sura was initially attracted to the colour and movement of abstract art. The direction of her work changed when, undecided, she approached Jamil Naqsh for advice. He studied her work and advised her to practice figurative art. Then ensued an intensive period of work and study of miniature schools of art mentored by Jamil Naqsh. Najmi found her signature art in the beautiful themes of Pahari, Rajput and Mughul Schools that characterize her work with a modern sensibility. Though her work is seldom seen in exhibition she is the recipient of National Awards. In June 2014, she is scheduled to mount a collection of her latest work in a two artist show with Jamil Naqsh at the Albermarle Gallery, London.
